Happy Mothers Day!

Lake_george_806_028 My youngest son asked me "Why do we buy you  cards and presents for Mother's Day?"

"..Because it is MOTHER'S DAY..."

"Yeah, but without us - you would not be a MOTHER - so shouldn't you thank US?"

"Nick - Go to bed, its late!"

Happy Mother's Day!!

Mother's Day .. Survey says.

Motherbeckcall  Mother's day is approaching so for all the dads and kids out there that just don't have any idea what to buy their 'Queen', I am here to help you.      Buy them a house!

Ok, I kid.  There was a survey that hit the internet from RISMedia and I think it is worth a look - (that is why I am posting it here).

"For Mother's Day, most Moms want a little "us" time — with 52% choosing a peaceful day with their family, over jewelry, flowers, a spa day or a homemade gift. 11% of Moms simply want "acknowledgment or appreciation for all that I do."

While 43% of Moms feel Mother's Day is their special day, an astonishing 37% felt like it was just like any other day, 12% want a Mother's Week, and 8% felt it was overrated."

St. Patricks Day and Birthdays. Top of the Morning to ya!

I know that when my 14 year old son gets just a few years older - he will think that sharing a birthday on St. Paddy's day is just the coolest thing and I am almost sure that the array of party's or parades that he will be attending, he will assume that because it is his birthday - he can party until his heart is content!  Hmm - I have a few years to fix this!

Who is St. Patrick?  St. Patrick was the Patron Saint that who brought Christianity to Ireland.  Historians have also said that St. Patrick  drove the snakes out of Ireland.  Ok, It is true that there are not any snakes in Ireland -(maybe on planes but not in Ireland).  I actually think that the snakes are more of a symbolic gesture than an actual removal of snakes.  Most of what I know about St. Patrick is his two works, the Confessio, a spiritual autobiography, and his Epistola, a denunciation of British mistreatment of Irish christians.  The first St. Patrick's day was not held in Ireland but in the United States.

Everything else gets commercialized - Yup, its true.  When my kids think about St. Patrick's Day - they think, Green, parades, pinching, leprechauns and beer, beer and more beer ( very funny!)

And... if you are still unsure about what St. Patricks Day means to most - then I have included a dandy video clip!

If you are looking to attend the parade in NYC - then you might want to leave like umm - now, for tomorrows festivities.

Christmas Caroling is not gone with the Wind!

Peter_ring_day_2006_042_1

This home which is located at 166-04 23rd Avenue Whitestone, NY 11357, will be hosting their annual Christmas Caroling, which is owed by Mr. and Mrs. Lynch.  The Lynch's are longtime residents of Whitestone and in all the years that I can remember, the children and the families from St. Luke's Parish gather at this Christmas wonderland to sing Carole's and to enjoy the Christmas Spirit.

The local fire department will be making their rounds as usual to help Santa down from the roof top (the reindeer's are resting for the big Christmas eve trip).   There is a donations box displayed right in front of the home, and all the proceeds that are collected are donated to the Children's Foundation.

Mr. Lynch starts his Christmas ritual of decorating the day after Halloween.  I can not even imagine how many lights, how many hours or how much effort goes into this, all I know is that my own husband was fighting me on putting a few more lights outside our house than just the light up snowman.   By the time my husband is done with our lights, I always hear the song "12 Pains of Christmas" - with a few extra choice "grown up words".

Anyway ..

The festivities take place at 6 pm on Monday, December 18th.   Look forward to seeing you there!
