Has there ever been a customer that you are or were dealing with and you have taken that customer to 2, 7 or 10 apartments you feel that you have created that business "love affair" - You both seem to hit it off great - you have the same interests, you feel at ease with each other and you are virtually "dating" until you find them their dream apartment. But, you just have not hit on the RIGHT ONE yet. You have been close - but just no cigar.
Perhaps you have started going "out" with this customer, two or three times a week, showing one to three apartments a day, and then one day - the customer just *poof* Vanishes. They won't return any of your calls, you have called them at work, on their cell phone and even at home. Feeling a bit saddened - you are not sure if it was something that you did/said. What could it be? Were they "Cheating on you"? *Gasp*
Or wait ... maybe it was worse....
Did they just stab you in the back? New York Times has an article about the down side of going behind Realtors backs and renting an apartment without them. Now, I am not talking about apartments that tenants found on their own. I am talking about the apartment that your broker showed to you to - you loved and you went and rented out from under your broker, just to get out of paying the rental fee. That is just wrong! I have personally never had that done to me - but I have heard of it and have seen it happen. But here is where it concerns me.. If the tenant can stab me in the back like that? Why can't or why won't he/she just skip out on the rent from the landlord? Any person that can "steal" like that can do it again and again. I would have to bet that!
Plus, let me just add: A broker can and might sue if that happens to them.
Has this happened to any brokers out there?? If so, how was it handled?
